Francavilla al Mare extends beside a broad sandy beach. Its urban fabric merges almost seamlessly with Pescara to the north, yet the town keeps its own pace, especially early in the day and outside the busiest summer weeks.
Beach clubs, open access points and services line the shore, attracting families and younger visitors. The seabed slopes gradually out to sea.
For me it remains one of the best places to run or cycle: the route is level, frequently open to the Adriatic and connected towards Pescara and the Chieti coast.
July and August bring the greatest concentration of visitors and activities; June and September usually offer beach weather with a gentler rhythm. Spring and autumn return the waterfront to walkers, runners and people simply observing the landscape.
Consult municipal information for water quality, local rules and seasonal services.
For a first walk, start at Piazza Sirena and the pier, central landmarks that are easy to recognise on your return. Choose a stretch that fits your time and check the precise location of your beach or destination: distances along the coast can be considerable, especially towards Pescara.
To combine the coast with art, add the Michetti Museum and Belvedere San Franco. The historic centre stands on a hill, so allow for the climb when planning the journey. With children or a pushchair, consider the beach access point and distance from facilities; when cycling, slow down at beach-club crossings.
