Alba Adriatica’s coastal cycle route

A ride along Lungomare Marconi, with extensions towards Tortoreto and Villa Rosa.

The cycle route in briefThe cycle path follows Lungomare Guglielmo Marconi for around three kilometres. This flat section runs from the boundary with Tortoreto to the Vibrata bridge, towards Villa Rosa.

Alba Adriatica is particularly easy to enjoy by bicycle. You can ride along the seafront, stop at the beach and set off again without using a car. Palms, oleanders, pine groves and beach clubs line the route, making a bike ride an easy part of a day by the sea.

The local path belongs to the Adriatic Green Corridor and Abruzzo's Bike to Coast network. Alba's own section is enough for a first outing; for a longer ride, continue along the Teramo coast.

You can join the cycle path at various points along the seafront and decide how far to ride. Going from one end of Alba to the other and returning the same way covers around six kilometres. This makes a manageable short outing, with time for stops and a distance you can adjust to your experience.

The pine groves are pleasant places to pause in the shade. In Tripadvisor reviews of the seafront, several visitors particularly appreciate the greenery, nearby cafés and restaurants, and the chance to go cycling in the evening.

Heading south, Alba's seafront becomes Tortoreto Lido's promenade. This is the simplest extension if you want a longer ride close to the beach. Beyond Tortoreto, the cycle and pedestrian bridge over the Salinello leads towards Giulianova.

Heading north, you reach the mouth of the Vibrata. Its cycle and pedestrian bridge takes you into Villa Rosa, part of the municipality of Martinsicuro. The river and bridge provide a change from the succession of beach clubs and a different view of the coast.

Early morning is a good choice for a summer ride, before the hottest hours. Evening suits a short outing among the seafront cafés and restaurants, although it can be busier. A cyclist's account on PisteCiclabili contrasts the pleasure of riding at sunrise with the heavier evening traffic on the path.

Slow down at crossings and beach entrances, where people walk to the beach clubs. When riding with children, take care to keep well to the right and look carefully before turning or overtaking. It must be said that, in terms of its design, Alba Adriatica's cycle path is the best on the coast for its width, surface quality and signage. You can comfortably ride side by side while staying in the same lane.
